The Wild Rivers Mushroom Club was established in 2003 in Brookings, Oregon - the center of the 101 mile-long "Wild Rivers Coast" of Northern California and Southern Oregon. Here in this Pacific coastal area there are more federally designated Wild Rivers than anywhere else in America!
Mushroom habitat in our region includes coastal sand dunes, foggy rain forest, and higher altitude coast range forest, all of which make for a very diverse and interesting fungal bioregion.
We formed this club years ago in order to help educate the public about the wild mushrooms that grow in our region. Our main event is the annual Wild Rivers Mushroom Festival, held annually in early November.
Our "official" club mission is to educate our members and the general public about the wild mushrooms that grow in our region, and to support the protection of natural areas and their biological integrity.
To that end, we focus on:
Of course, our "unofficial" club mission is to 1) Have Fun; 2) Enjoy and Learn about Mushrooms; 3) Grow our local Mushroom Community; 4) Support the Wild Rivers Mushroom Festival; and 5) Support Conservation of the Mushroom Environment !
We generally meet monthly from September through April and take the summer off. If you're interested in joining the Wild Rivers Mushroom Club, please email us at wildriversmushroomclub@gmail.com.
