About the Wild Rivers Mushroom Club

The Wild Rivers Mushroom Club is a 501(c)3 organization, established in 2003 in Brookings, Oregon - the center of the "Wild Rivers Coast" region of Northern California and Southern Oregon. Here in this Pacific Northwest coastal area there are more federally designated Wild Rivers than anywhere else in America!

Mushroom habitat in our region includes coastal sand dunes, foggy rain forest, and higher altitude coast range forest, all of which make for a very diverse and interesting fungal bioregion. 

Our mission is to educate our members and the general public about the wild mushrooms that grow in our region, and to support the protection of natural areas and their biological integrity. Specifically, we focus on: 1) Fungi study and identification; 2) Habitat & fungi ecology and conservation; and 3) Gathering & consuming edible fungi in a safe and healthy manner. Of course, it's also important to us that everyone has fun while learning about mushrooms! 

As a group, we strive to grow our local mushroom community; support conservation of our local mushroom environment; and host the annual two-day  Wild Rivers Mushroom Festival, held in early November in Brookings. 

The club generally meets monthly (2-4 pm on the second Sunday at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane) from September through April (we take the summer off). Dues are $20/person or $30/couple, and are payable each season starting in September. You can bring your dues to the September or October meeting, or you can mail them to:

Dues go to support bringing speakers in for monthly meetings, hosting overnight forays in nearby areas, and organizing local forays during the fall and winter mushroom season. (These activities are limited to paid members only.) For more info, email us at wildriversmushroomclub@gmail.com.
